Recorded only from a small area in North Turkey, Pontic Range and possibly extinct in nature. It is well established in cultivation, but has become scarse after Messrs. P. Visser of St. Pancras ceased their business. It dislikes a summer rest and is best treated like an Erythronium. Probably the best Tulip for naturalizing. The very last of all Tulips to flower at the end of May and in June. Flowers bright scarlet with a greenish tinge on the exterior. Anthers and pollen bright yellow.
