Triploid clone, spread over much of Central and Western Asia by the Moguls and the Persians since ancient times. This clone has been collected by P. N. K. in 1969, in the mountains of Kashmir, near Shrinagar, where it has become naturalized. It increases by means of long stolons and also by offsets. Flowers dazzling orange-scarlet with jet-black center, bordered yellow. Tepals 12 x 2 3/8 inches. Pollen yellow. Requires a sunny but sheltered position in the garden, since the leaves appear early. Ht. 16-20 inches.
