From the family, Iridaceae, having common name(s) associated with the genus; Fall Crocus.

Triploid clone which has been in cultivation for centuries. See also C. cartwrightianus Herb. The long red style branches that protrude from the lilac flowers in the autumn are the source of commercial 'Saffron'. Ht. 2-4 inches.
