Colchicaceae, having common name(s) associated with the genus; Autumn Crocus, Meadow Saffron.
Coll. AH.8942 in Central Greece: Prov. Fokis, Mt Giona, growing in thin soil of alpine meadow, with Corydalis solida (L.) Clairv. ssp. incisa Lidén, Fritillaria graeca Boiss. et Sprun. at 1800 m alt., 10.05.1989. Flowers 2 to 3, lobes 1.5 inches long, faintly checkered. Leaves vernal, erect, 1.5 inches wide, up to 10 inches long. Differing from C. autumnale in the membranous corm tunic, the checkered flower, the foliage being much smaller and by flowering two months earlier. Ht. 4-6 inches.
