Colchicaceae, having common name(s) associated with the genus; Autumn Crocus, Meadow Saffron.
Coll. P.7304 in W. Turkey, Prov. Antalya, low elevation, in 1973. Flowers 1 to 3, funnel-shaped. Bright purplish-pink, not checkered, with lobes up to 1.5 inches long. Anthers yellow. Leaves three, about 2 inches long at flowering time, stretching to 12 inches in the spring. If unprotected the leaves are likely to be damaged by frost. Corm ovoid, often with large 'heel', reminiscent of its evolutionary proximity with Gloriosa superba. Ht. 2-3 inches.
